In and Around Inverness

There is much to do in and around Inverness with many historic buildings including the Castle and the Town House as well as the Museum and local art galleries.  There are beautiful walks along the River Ness through the Ness Islands, past the Inverness Floral Hall and onto longer walks along the Caledonian Canal.  In addition to this, there is the Eden Court Theatre and Vue Cinema Complex as well as many local festivals including the Inverness Tattoo and Highland Games.

There are many restaurants in Inverness, suited to all styles and all budgets, making use of internationally renowned ingredients such as wild salmon, venison and of course the odd drop of whisky.  Please remember, to avoid disappointment, to book restaurants in advance of your visit. Those wishing to “go on” after dinner will find an excellent selection of hotels and bars, some of which offer local music.

Inverness is also a very popular venue for golfers.  There are many fine courses in the immediate area.  The Scottish Open has recently moved to the Castle Stuart Course. Royal Dornoch to the north of Inverness is frequently acclaimed as one of the top twenty courses in the world. There are also fine golf courses in nearby Nairn.

Whilst Inverness has all the facilities of a modern city, the more rural Highlands are within easy reach.  On the edge of the city, there is Culloden Battlefield, scene of the last battle on British soil. Loch Ness, the Black Isle, Speyside and the Cairngorms are also all close at hand.

Speyside is one of Scotland's loveliest areas.  The river Spey is one of the famous salmon fishing rivers whilst the surrounding area offers the Malt Whisky Trail. There are more malt whisky distilleries in this small area than in any other part of the country.
